Semashko and Martynov to Go to “Eastern Partnership” Summit
An official Belarusian delegation which will go to the Eastern Partnership summit in Prague on May, 7 has been formed. The delegation includes the first deputy Premier Vladimir Semashko and Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergey Martynov. It has been stated by Maria Vanshyna, the deputy head of the information department of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.
“As you know, invitation to the summit of the Eastern Partnership initiative was passed by the Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic, which is presiding in the EU now, to the president of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko personally. As it was planned, the head of the state adopted a decision on the members of the delegation. Since the Eastern Partnership program’s content is purely applied and covers socially and economically important spheres of cooperation (trade, energy, transport, migration, etc.) it will fall within the jurisdiction of the Council of Ministers. And consequently the official Belarusian delegation has included the first deputy Premier Vladimir Semashko and Foreign Minister Sergey Martynov”, — Maria Vanshyna said.
The representative of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry noted that “we proceed from the need for equal and non-discriminatory participation in the Eastern Partnership by all of the six respective countries of the region. The implementation of the initiative should serve the strengthening of the European continent’s unity without the creation of new dividing lines and spheres of influence”.
